A Global Community
The International Grants Committee (IGC) is the global giving arm of the Rotary Club of Point West –
Sacramento. We support projects that adhere to the seven areas of focus as identified in the Rotary
International Grant Guidelines: Promoting Peace; Fighting Disease; Providing Clean Water, Sanitation and
Hygiene; Saving Mothers and Children; Supporting Education and Growing Local Economies; and
Supporting the Environment.
Partnership Impact
The IGC participates in Rotary International Global Grants and direct grants to qualified and vetted nonprofit organizations. Through partnerships with other Rotary Clubs and NGO’s, we have supported multiple early education programs, anti-violence programs, water provision and purifications systems, sanitation and hygiene systems, and most recently, Covid-19 aid relief. We share fellowship across countries and cultures as we collectively work to improve our communities.

Integrated Community Development of Ngongolo, Uganda
Global Grant #2234735
Host Club: RC of Bwebajja
International Club: RC of Cupertino
Ngongolo is a county located about 40 km outside of Kampala, Uganda, with a population of approximately 100,000 that is in economic need. Available work consists of manual labor, some of which is physically dangerous. The majority of homes in the Ngongolo villages do not have toilets or access to clean water.
The Community Needs Assessment showed the need for a holistic approach, so this project touches on several areas of focus, particularly as they relate to women and youths: economic development, basic education and literacy, water, sanitation, and hygiene. Four villages serve as the focus for this project, with the goal of spreading this impact throughout the county over subsequent phases.
The project launched March 11, 2023 and project milestones have been reached ahead of schedule. The community well has been dug, with a solar pump and reservoir to come. Pigs have been delivered and will soon be divided out to the four groups who will raise them for sale. All educational materials have been purchased and were distributed at the launch (see video). VIP toilets are halfway completed.
Covid-19: Comprehensive Community-Based Chronic Care in Ciudad Sanino, Nicaragua
Global Grant #2119137
Host Club: RC of Ciudad Sandino
International Club: RC of Point West – Sacramento
When Covid hit, Jubilee House, a non-profit, and their Nueva Vida clinic, faced clear challenges to providing continuing care to those patients with chronic conditions. We have partnered with the Rotary Club of Ciudad Sandino and Jubilee House, to provide for medicines, technology, and community training to bridge the gap in services.
The project was funded in February and progress includes: meetings with the Rotary Community Corps health promotion group; purchasing and distributing a month’s worth of medicine; and weekly informational meetings with different groups of chronic care patients. The next phase includes specialized trainings that will begin in May.
