Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening (RYLA) is a leadership program coordinated by Rotary Clubs around the globe.  Each year, thousands of young people, usually juniors and seniors from local high schools, participate in this program.  Students from Northern California and Nevada are sponsored by Rotary Clubs from those areas with the event being administered by the Districts 5180/5190's RYLA Executive Committee. Located near the community of Portola, California in the Sierra Nevada mountains. the weeklong camp is held at Grizzly Creek Ranch and covers a variety of topics as listed below;

  • Fundamentals of leadership
  • Ethics of positive leadership
  • Importance of communication skills in effective leadership
  • Problem-solving and conflict management
  • Rotary's purpose and service to the community
  • Building self confidence and self-esteem
  • Elements of community and global citizenship

In addition to the core curriculum, RYLA participants can expect to further develop their personal and leadership skills in the following key areas:

  • Communication Skills:
  • Personal Qualities
  • Leadership
  • Problem Solving Strategies
Almost every student who attends RYLA comes back and states that the experience was "life changing."   Point West Rotary sponsors students from Encina High and West Campus to attend RYLA.   For more information, visit the RYLA website at:   Welcome to RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening (camp-ryla.org) .
