SUMMARY:PWR & The Salvation Army's Angel Tree Food Distribution Event
DESCRIPTION:Point West Rotary has participated in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree and Food Distribution event at Cal Expo for the last few years.  Our volunteer duties include greeting families\, loading Christmas trees\, food and toys into family vehicles\, and directing traffic through the designated areas of Cal Expo.  This year’s event will be on Wednesday\, December 20\, 2023\, from 7:30am to 3:00pm.  It has always been a great time to spend with other Club member’s and to provide a little joy to needy families during the Holiday’s.

DESCRIPTION:Point West Rotary has participated in the Salvation Army’s “Red Kettle Bell Ringing” the last few years.  This year our Club will ring the bell at the Bel-Air Market at Arden and Eastern from 10:00am to 6:00pm on Wednesday\, December 15\, 2023.   We will have a bell at each of the two doors and look forward to greeting customers\, seeing friends and neighbors\, and hoping to break last year’s Kettle Bell collection of almost $1\,000.

SUMMARY:Run the Parkway Aid Station
DESCRIPTION:Aid Station Volunteers Needed\nThe 2023 edition of the “Run the Parkway” event will be held on Sunday\, November 5th.  The event features both a half marathon and a 20 mile run\, and is jointly conducted by the Sacramento Running Association and the American River Parkway Foundation.  It is designated as the official training run for the California International Marathon.  Proceeds from the event are used by the Parkway Foundation to support the preservation and enjoyment of the Parkway.\n\nTHIS IS A “RAIN OR SHINE” EVENT! (I have been lobbying Mother Nature extensively for a clear\, cool morning\, so things should (hopefully) work out!)\n\nIn the past\, Point West Rotary has assisted with the run by operating one of the event water stops.  We have again been asked to undertake this roll.  Specifically\,  15-20 Point West Rotarians are needed to staff the Ambassador Park water station in Rancho Cordova.  Ambassador Park is situated along the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail (aka the “American River Bike Trail”) about 1/3 of a mile east of trail milepost 18.  A map is attached to this email depicting the location of the water stop.  (If you can’t read the map\, just Google “Ambassador Park\, Rancho Cordova” for directions.)  Street parking will be available along Ambassador Drive. \n\nApproximately 6 volunteers are needed beginning at 7:15 AM to help with setting up the water stop.  The remaining volunteer force will need to check in by 8:00 AM.  The stop will remain open until sometime between 11:00 AM and Noon.  The work is light\, consisting mainly of handing runners cups of water and energy bars\, as well as cheering them on and providing them moral support for the remainder of the run.\n\nDon’t forget that the Executive Director of the Sacramento Running Association is Scott Abbot\, the son of our own Dave Abbott.  Point West Rotary has operated a water stop for this event several times and always received accolades for how well we performed.  Let’s keep the string going!!!  (If we don’t\, I’ll have to answer to “da Judge”!)\n\nTo summarize\, the relevant facts are:\n\nWhat:  RUN THE PARKWAY WATER STOP\nWhere:  AMBASSADOR PARK\, RANCHO CORDOVA\nWhen:  SUNDAY\, NOVEMBER 5TH.  SIX VOLUNTEERS NEEDED BY 7:15 AM\, REMAINDER BY 8:00 AM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\na thing that happens\, especially one of importance.\n\n“one of the main political events of the late 20th century”
